Starting a fitness routine is exciting! Knowing you have many physical benefits to look forward to is one of the best parts. However, the benefits you will reach go far beyond what you can see. As fitness coaches, we get feedback from our clients regarding the additional benefits they were not expecting. Here are five unexpected results from a consistent exercise plan:
Sharpen Memory: Ever walked into a room and wondered why you were there? Us too! While we can’t promise this will never happen again, we can tell you that exercise is proven to help your memory.
“Exercise improves memory by increasing molecular targets like the brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). This molecular factor increases synaptogenesis, forming new synapses that mediate learning and memory, making it easier to absorb information and form long-term memories”

Not many people like to think about aging, so we tend to put off those things that can help us with healthy aging. Getting involved in a consistent program is one solid way to set yourself up for a better future, both cognitively and physically.
Help Addiction: A completed workout is one of the most satisfying feelings; here is why. Physical activity releases dopamine and serotonin, the “feel good” chemicals. Both addictive substances and exercise trigger similar parts of the brain. Experts theorize that working out can decrease anxiety and depression, common causes of substance abuse. There is much to learn in this field, but we know that a healthier state of mind is one step closer to leading a healthier way of life.
“Experts think regular physical activity can act as a healthy stand-in for addictive substances. That’s because exercise and drugs of misuse work on similar parts of your brain. They both activate your reward pathway, which triggers the release of feel-good chemicals like serotonin and dopamine.”

Be an Inspiration: As you begin your wellness journey, others notice. It may be family members, friends, co-workers, online friends, or anyone who crosses your path. Inspiration comes from those who desire to be better; sharing your journey will help others believe in themselves. South County Boot Camp and Wellness Coaching for Women is a group fitness program. Your dedication to giving your best inspires the other women around you to do the same.
“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more, you are a leader.” John Adams
Improve Relaxation: Working out decreases the body’s level of adrenaline and cortisol, also known as the stress hormones. In addition, moving your body will stimulate the production of endorphins, which are feel-good chemicals. Exercising five or six hours before bedtime raises the body’s temperature; when that drops a few hours later, your body knows it is time to get to bed. Being well-rested will keep you relaxed and less stressed.
Be More Productive: Get moving, energized, and do more! Regular exercise has been proven to increase energy levels. In turn, those tasks you were too tired to tackle before are about to be checked off the list. Working out is a natural mood booster and energy provider, making it easier to get more things done. So stop sitting, get moving and get doing!
