Mary Murphy’s….The Perfect Pint and The Perfect Place!

Rumors spread as the whole town speculated about what was in store for the former Fat Bellies in Wakefield.  The truth is, it was a bit sad to see the casual Irish bar leave town.  The good news is, there is still an Irish bar there!  Mary Murphy’s has opened their doors and offer an eclectic Irish menu with drinks aplenty.   Additionally, there have been renovations that separate the bar from the dining areas which has greatly improved the ambiance and allows for intimate dinner conversation.  There is dark wood with a beautiful patina, warm amber lighting, and a choice of high top seating, window seating, or cozy tables with room for a crowd.
On our first visit, the service was perfect; from the moment we entered we were immediately tended to.  We had our choice of seating and chose a cozy table.  The vibe was quiet, neighborly, hometown friendly, yet with a bit o’ excitement in the air.  Just the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to hang around for a few pints.  The most notable appetizer on the menu…The Perfect Pint!  As the menu states, “No great story starts with a salad.”  We laughed at that but knew right away how true that is!  Of course, we went for the pint and yes…..it was perfect!   We also opted for the Bread Board which featured homemade hummus and pesto, roasted garlic and freshly baked breads.  The Mary Murphy’s Brown Bread is a must…sweet and flavorful, yet chewy at the same time. Besides the expected tavern style choices, there were Irish favorites such as Shepard pie, bangers and mash,  and of course….a corn beef dinner.  There is so much to be said about the menu…have a look:
