Cheers to the RIGHT Wall in Matunuck!

After a long debate regarding the construction of a seawall in Matunuck, a favorable decision has finally been reached. On Tuesday, the Rhode Island Coastal Resources Management Council voted in favor of the decision to rebuild and maintain the 60 foot wall that is already in existence.  This eliminates the negative impact that would have occurred to the area’s establishments…such as Ocean Mist and Tara’s Tipperary Tavern, two Rhode Island staples!  Ocean Mist owner, Kevin Finnegan, has been given the go ahead to create a stronger seawall to protect the area.  Finnegan will be footing the bill for this two million dollar reconstruction.   A quote from the Ocean Mist Facebook page reaches out to thank those that helped bring this matter to an end.  It reads, “The CRMC has voted FOR the maintenance permit for MARYS WALL … A huge shout out to everyone who came to tonight’s meeting to show their support… EVERYONE who signed our petition and tonight’s speakers … Roger Landry Esq, Ross Morgan from GMZ Engineering, Kate Coyne McCoy, Mark Furano,Terry Moran from McLaughlin & Moran, Lisa Frazier, Steve Laplante from Mtk BCH trailer Assoc, Lise Iwon Esq., Geraldine Higgins former employee of CRMC, Sk Town Council President Abel Collins, SK Town Council member Liz Gledhill, Wendy Cafferty , and Steve Smith … Thank you!
