A highlight of the Flames of Hope: Celebration of Life™ weekend, the Illumination of Life Ceremony, lights up the night to promote the mission of Gloria Gemma – celebrate and nurture life in our local community before, during and after a breast cancer diagnosis.

The ceremony begins at the State House, which is beautifully lit in pink, with a moving tribute featuring the State Ballet of Rhode Island and heartfelt speakers.
The torch bearers are survivors or individuals paying tribute to someone having lost their journey to breast cancer. For many, the procession is a celebration of what they have endured and overcome.
Torch bearers start the procession at the State House and wind their way through downtown Providence to the basin at Waterplace park. There are no words to express the emotions of the audience or the torchbearers as they proceed to the basin.

Each torch bearer is asked to raise a minimum of $500 to carry a torch. All proceeds are used to help with the operating costs of the Hope Bus, Gloria Gemma’s traveling resource center that provides education and support to the greater Rhode Island area.
This display is a compelling and poignant experience for torchbearers as well as the audience. The procession promotes awareness, encourages support for people affected by breast cancer, and fosters a sense of paying it forward.
