Vegetarian Restaurants in Rhode Island

There are many places in the country where it’s tough to find a meat-free meal. Rhode Island is not one of these places. On top of the many restaurants that just happen to have great meat-free options, there are also a number of establishments that cater specifically to vegetarians, vegans, and other individuals with dietary restrictions, voluntary or not.  A lot of great vegetarian options can be found on the East Side of Providence. In fact, several great places can be found right on Hope Street. India, located at 1060 Hope Street, offers a great selection of meat and gluten free foods, including vegetable samosas, a portabella and naan pizza that really deserves to be tasted, and a variety of vegetarian curries. For your meat-eating friends, there is also a fine selection of non-vegetarian options.

Right up the street from India, just across the Providence/Pawtucket city line, you can find two great vegetarian restaurants in Rhode Island. One of the most well known vegetarian restaurants in Rhode Island is The Garden Grille, located in the same shopping center as the Rite-Aid, specializes in vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free dining. They serve brunch, lunch, and dinner. Try the seared autumn squash polenta, a rich, strong dish similar to a risotto. Or, if you’re looking for something lighter, try out a plate of sweet potato latkes or some peanut pad thai. In addition, Garden Grille has been kosher certified by a rabbi at nearby Congregation Beth Sholom.

Two storefronts over from the Garden Grille, you can find Wildflour, a vegan bakery. They offer a great variety of vegan pastries, pies and other treats, as well as a full coffee and tea selection. If you’re looking for vegetarian restaurants in Rhode Island outside of Providence county, check out Crazy Burger in Narragansett. As the name would suggest, they offer a great variety of homemade veggie burgers. Crazy Burger offers a deep and varied menu, from their tempeh and black bean mole vegan enchiladas to their amazing selection of freshly-made smoothies.
