Rise & Play: Sensory-Friendly Mornings in Our Big Backyard

First Tuesday of every month (August 7November 6) | 9:00 – 10:00 AM

Join us for an hour of nature play before the zoo opens: designed for families who have a child with sensory sensitivities, come and play in Hasbro’s Our Big Backyard from 9 to 10 a.m. Build mud pies, watch boats float downstream and climb high in a tree-house. Limited to 70 participants, this hour will allow you and your family to spend time playing in nature, in a smaller group of guests.

Price: Regular Zoo admission ($12.95/child; $15.95/senior; $17.95/adult); Free for RWPZ members

Sensory-Friendly Days at Carousel Village

First Tuesday of every month (August 7October 2) | 12:00 – 6:00 PM

On the first Tuesday of each month (April – August), Carousel Village offers Sensory-Friendly Days. We invite those with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and sensory processing differences to explore and enjoy Carousel Village. For maximum comfort, there will be no music or indoor lights. The Carousel, bounce house and playground will be open to the public, as well as train and pony rides – weather permitting.

Please note: Standard activity pricing applies.

Celebrate World Elephant Day!

Sunday, August 12 | 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Ever wonder how an elephant takes a bath, does her nails, or checks her weight?  Now, you can find out during the Zoo’s Textron Elephant Barn tour in celebration of World Elephant Day! Twenty-minute tours of the barn are on a first-come, first-served basis.  Get an up-close view of the workings of the elephant barn, and insight on the care elephants receive. There are no animal interactions on the tour, and the elephants will not be in the barn during the tours, but you may visit with the elephants after the tour in the Ivory Ella Yard. And don’t miss out on special elephant keeper talks and animal enrichment throughout the day.

Please note: This event is included with the price of regular Zoo admission; Free for RWPZoo members
