Hope Street in Bristol Dons the List of 2016 Main Streets Across America!

Hope Street in Bristol has been chosen by nationallife.com as the Main Street to represent Rhode Island on the list of Main Streets Across America. Some notable points that the article makes include the fact that Hope Street, although a public highway,has no yellow line down the middle of the road.  Instead, there is a red, white and blue stripe signifying the towns dedication celebrating July Fourth.  In fact, this celebration has been happening since 1785.  The article also states that, “It’s a heritage built on both water and land. Bristol is nearly surrounded by salt water, with frontage on both Narragansett and Mount Hope bays. Bristol Harbor’s active deepwater port supports boating of all kinds; there’s even a kayak trail, and a waterfront bicycle path. The Herreshoff Manufacturing Company on the waterfront built boats for the Navy and America’s Cup yachts. The Herreschoff Marine Museum/America’s Cup Hall of Fame is on Burnside Street, and a monument on Hope Street notes the company’s many contributions.
