Light My Way…The Lighthouses of Rhode Island!

Whether viewed by land, by sea or by air,  Rhode Island has 15 active lighthouses in the state.   The first was erected in 1749 and the last in 1962.   Some of these guardians of the shore are best viewed by boat, but there are plenty to be seen from land as well.  These beacons of safety vary in size, accessibility, characteristics of signal, location and construction.  Whether they are built from wood, stone, brick, granite, or a combination…they are a steadfast reminder of those who have sailed our waters past and present.
