Music to Your Ears at The General Stanton Inn Flea Market!

Metaphorically speaking, the search for antiques and vintage items at a Flea Market is sweet music to a collector’s ears. That music gets even sweeter at The General Stanton inn Flea Market in Charlestown, where there’s a full weekend of outdoor treasure hunting offered every Saturday, Sunday and Holiday Monday ( 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m.) through Columbus Day, October 10. (Seven a.m. early birds are always “music to the ears” of vendors as they are setting up.)

(The music in Charlestown will take on a literal note, two weeks from now, during Labor Day Weekend (Friday-Sunday, Sept. 2-4), when the 19th Annual Rhythm and Roots Music Festival at Ninigret Park, 4890A Old Post Rd., will energize the area. ) This “music you just gotta dance to Fest” will feature a wide range of musicians, from new talent to some of the great legends of Roots Music. The ABCs of “made in the USA” Music (Americana, Blues, Cajun) will join a full alphabet of entertainments, from Folk, New Orleans, Rhythm and Blues and Zydeco. Back up the road (4115 Old Post Rd.) at The General Stanton Inn Flea Market, vintage musical instruments, sheet music and posters might bring a zing to the heart of some antiquers. (There’s even some hand-crafted jewelry for sale at the Flea Market, with a musical theme. Some of it is made as you watch!)

THE GENERAL STANTON INN FLEA MARKET HAS BEEN KEEPING THE ART OF THE FLEA ALIVE SINCE 1965! For the past 51 years, this Market has been held every weekend, on the seven, tree-shaded acres that make up the grounds of the historic, General Joseph Stanton Inn (est. 1667 by the good General’s Stanton ancestors.) The General Stanton Flea Market shares geography with several of Rhode Island’s world-class beaches. And a visit to the Flea Market, followed by a beach trip n’ dip (or vice versa) is just 7-10 miles away, depending on which of Charlestown’s beaches you choose.

Admission to The General Stanton Flea Market is free. There’s a $2. parking fee charged on Sundays, only.

The General Stanton Flea Market is one big treasure hunt. Such items encourage creativity, as folks explore the Flea Market for “old” items, to which they can give new life…Repurposers and upcyclers make an art out of Flea Marketing.
