5 Reasons to Attend the 34th Annual Great Chowder Cook-Off

Saturday, June 6th will be the 34th Annual Great Chowder Cook-Off at Fort Adams State Park.  This treasured venue is the perfect location for the longest running chowder challenge in the nation!  If you have never attended, here are 5 great reasons to find yourself slurping chowder at Fort Adams.

1.  The Entertainment:  While the food is the main draw, what is a summer afternoon in Newport without a side of music?  The Ravers, a locally loved Reggae Band, will be among the acts that will be adding to the summer feel of this treasured event.  There are several stages that will be hosting acts to bring an island vibe to the historic Fort Adams State Park.

2.  The Family Friendliness:  This event is suitable for all ages and will feature events and entertainment to keep the little ones involved and excited.  To start, children under 12 are free with a paying adult.  However, the family friendliness goes far beyond the wallet!  There are activities that cater to the kids as well as bar options that will satisfy the adults in your party.  This is the perfect way to spend the afternoon with your family and friends.

3.  The Bang for Your Buck:  Tickets are only $20.00 in advance and $25.00 the day of.  With this ticket you will be allowed endless samples of chowder from some of the finest chefs in the country!  Plan to come hungry and leave satisfied.  Enjoy the flavor of traditional chowders as well as the enticing spices used in some of the exotic and innovative twists on chowder.  Extra hungry?  Perhaps you should participate in the 2015 Clam Cake Chow Down competition.  Contestants will attempt to quickly consume 1/2 dozen clam-cakes prior to the grand finale!

4.  Your Opinion Matters:  Here you can not only indulge but you can voice your opinion.  Once you have sampled, you can cast your vote for the best chowder!  Imagine, you and your taste buds have the chance to vote on “The Best Chowder in the WORLD”.   Contestants come from all over and the winners will walk away with the right to brag profusely along with an overflowing prize pot.  So come and taste what it means to have the best chowder in the world!

5.  The Location:  Fort Adams State Park is a historic location that provides panoramic waterfront views, fresh ocean breezes and the perfect venue to showcase a Rhode Island event.  There is ample parking and acres of fresh green grass making this the perfect place to sprawl out and enjoy the day.  The Fort alone is worth the visit, but factor in vats of delectable chowder, live music, family entertainment and a healthy dose of Rhode Island scenery and you have the perfect equation for a summery day!
