The month of May blossoms in Rhode Island with seasonal live theater venues opening for the summer! The long-awaited return of Bold Point Park, RI’s premier open air live entertainment venue located in East Providence kicks off their 2022 season on May 27th with multi-platinum artist Chris Young on his Famous Friends Tour. This will be the venue’s first show since the Covid related shutdowns. Bold Point Park’s 2022 season is packed with top shelf live entertainment that includes Tesla, Buddy Guy with Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Trombone Shorty’s Voodoo Theauxdown (a curated mini music festival), Chris Lane and much more. May also brings us the opening of Theatre by the Sea in Wakefield. The RI iconic theater that first opened in 1933 will launch the 2022 season with the musical Million Dollar Quartet that will run from May 25th – June 18th. The following feature shows include Footloose, Cinderella and Kinky Boots. In addition, the venue offers a Friday morning children’s’ festival and a Monday evening concert series. New for RI live theater is the grand opening of the Historic Park Theatre and Events Center on May 14th with legendary comedian Jim Breuer. Enjoy a night of laughter while experiencing the renovations and improvements made to the former Park Theater located in Cranston, RI. Within the Park Theatre and Events Center complex resides RI’s newest comedy club, The Comedy Park. Here is just a glimpse of events happening in the month of May. Barry Goodreau, formerly of the band Boston, brings his band Barry Goodreau’s Engine Room to the Courthouse Center of the Arts in W. Kingston on May 6th. The Greenwich Odeum has a lot to offer in May including shows by comedian Kevin Nealon on May 12th and musician / songwriter Graham Parker on May 15th. The Stadium Theatre Performing Arts Centre in Woonsocket presents One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest on May 13th – 15th as well as the legendary band Tavares on May 21st.
The Blue Man group comes to Providence on May 20th – 22nd at the Providence Performing Arts Center. Just over the border at the Spire Center for Performing Arts in Plymouth, MA, you can experience the ultimate Fleetwood Mac tribute band, Tusk for two shows on May 14th.
