Roger Williams Park Zoo announced today that beginning on Tuesday, June 5, Hasbro’s Our Big Backyard will host sensory friendly mornings from 9:00 to 10:00 am on the first Tuesday of each month through August – dates include June 5, July 2, and August 7. Designed for families who have a child with sensory sensitivities, children and adults will enjoy an hour of nature play including the opportunity to build mud pies, watch boats float downstream, climb high in a treehouse, and spend time playing in nature, in a smaller group of guests. The hour is limited to 70 participants. Additionally, imagination playground, a large-scale building toy, will be available for guests to use during this time. This amazing play material allows visitors to create tall towers, build ramps, and design cities, all at one’s own pace. The activity room will be available with books and carpet squares for families who need a quiet space during the event.
The Rise and Play mornings are free for members, and included in the price of admission for non-members. Nature Swap will open at 10:00 am per usual. For more information, and tickets please visit rwpzoo.link/riseandplay.
Additionally, the first Tuesday of each month, April – August, the Carousel Village offers Sensory Friendly Days. We invite those with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and sensory processing differences to explore and enjoy the Carousel Village. For maximum comfort, there will be no music or indoor lights. The Carousel, bounce house and playground will be open to the public, as well as train and pony rides (weather permitting). Standard activity pricing applies.
