4 Ways to Celebrate Earth Day 2017 in Rhode Island

It’s no secret that having clean water, air and land is essential for all existence on earth. Taking care of our planet should be a top priority, which is why annual celebrations like Earth Day are vital. So, whether you volunteer to clean a beach or simply make more of an effort to recycle, be sure to honor Earth Day on Saturday, April 22.

GO EXPLORING:

The Audubon Environmental Education Center is hosting a five-day exploration series to encourage kids to appreciate nature. Activities include: looking for insects, searching for frogs and turtles during a swamp stomp, exploring the seashore with buckets and more. PARTY FOR THE PLANET:

April 17 – 21, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Every year Roger Williams Park Zoo hosts a full week of family events to honor Earth Day. Zoo-goers can enjoy fun activities like: learning about the local food system, the value of natural resources and exploring the great outdoors. For more visit: rwpzoo.org.

CLEAN A BEACH:
Fort Wetherill Road, Jamestown, RI
April 22, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.

The Biomes Marine Biology Center will be sponsoring a beach cleanup for Earth Day at Fort Wetherill in Jamestown. This is a spot where the center finds many of its creatures. Gloves and trash bags will be provided on site, and all ages are welcome to participate. Volunteers will be invited to join staff back at Biomes following the event as a thank you. LOCAL EARTH DAY EVENTS:

Many areas hold annual eco-friendly events to promote a clean earth. For instance, the City of Central Falls is having their 7th Annual Central Falls Earth Day Clean Up on Saturday, April 22nd.
