Labor Day Weekend 5 Fabulous Ideas!

There are many different ways to celebrate Labor Day and, even if you’re not particularly interested in the holiday itself, it still gives us a three-day weekend, and serves as a suiting send-off to the summer. There’s plenty going on around the state from Friday through Monday, including a number of family-friendly events that will make it easy to keep your family occupied over the long weekend.  Here are 5 worth while Labor Day Weekend events:

1. Rhythm and Roots Festival 

For a start, there’s the seventeenth annual Rhythm and Roots festival. The festival will be running from Friday through Sunday, and is being held at Ninigret Park in Charlestown. Over those three days, ninety-two different rhythm and roots bands will perform, and includes a large children’s area. With performers like Anders Osborne, The Handsome Family Charles Bradley, it’s guaranteed to be a great experience for fans of rhythm and roots music. 2.   Blues Jam with Kenny Wayne Shepard Band at the Yacht Club in Newport

The Blues Jam will feature a number of popular blues acts, including Rhode Island’s own Roomful of Blues and Big Cat Blues. The Blues Jam will be held on Sunday the 31st, starting at 4:00 PM. For more information about this event, visit the Yacht Club’s website at www.newportwaterfrontevents.com.

3.  2014 Style Week

Friday the 29th marks your final chance to take part in 2014 Style Week, an fashion event that features many local up-and-coming designers. Come by and see what Providence’s fashion world has to offer; you may be surprised at what you find. Style Week will be held at the Providence Biltmore. 4.   2nd Story Theater in Warren

On the Friday before Labor Day, the 2nd Story will be showing the classic Bohemian comedy Hay Fever by Noel Coward. Through the 31st, they will be performing And Then There Were None, the famous murder mystery, written by one of the masters of the genre, Agatha Christie. And, running all weekend, the minimalist two person play Freud’s Last Session will be showing. The 2nd Story Theater is located on Market Street in Warren, close to the corner of Main Street. 5.   Providence River Boat Company

What better way to enjoy the final days of summer than out on the water? On September 1st, the Providence River Boat Company will be hosting a water tour of Providence, including visits to the appropriately-named Waterplace Park , The Providence Harbor, and more.
