Buying Asian food in America can always be a bit of a gamble. There are a lot of different options, and if you don’t do your research, you don’t always know exactly what you’re going to get. If you want guaranteed quality, however, you can’t go wrong with Apsara Palace on Hope Street.

Apsara serves Chinese, Thai, Cambodian, and Vietnamese cuisine, and serves all of them well. Like most hidden gem restaurants, Apsara is unassuming from the outside, but we don’t go to restaurants for the architecture; we go for the food. And that is where Apsara Palace shines.

Apsara Palace’s menu goes on for pages and pages. There is a massive variety of foods available in a massive variety of styles. They have some staple Chinese dishes like Egg Foo Yung, sweet and sour shrimp, and a particularly delicious chow mein.

If you like Cambodian, try Apsara’s stirfried lort noodles, or their ginger stir fry. They also make a great Cambodian Plear salad. They also have a variety of Cambodian soups and a long list of Cambodian stir fry dishes.

If you prefer Vietnamese, Apsara Palace makes a particularly rich Bee Boong, and Banh Hoi served with rice vermicelli and their fantastic peanut sauce.

But that’s just where the menu begins. If you like Thai food, you can get their Thai lemongrass stir fry; their Thai Pineapple Fried Rice, served with just a dash of curry; or try a bowl of Tom Yum soup, a spicy and sour dish served with either veggie and chicken, or with shrimp.

Apsara Asian is located at 783 Hope Street in Providence, in the same building as the Soapbox Laundromat. For more information, visit their website at www.aspirerestaurant.com.
