Leaf Peepers…Here is Where to Peep in RI!

Fall Foliage in Rhode Island

New Englanders often take the fall foliage for granted. While locals may rib out of town leaf peepers, the fact is that the fall is a beautiful time of year in Rhode Island, especially if you find just the right spot. Here are some great spots where you can

experience this annual transformation for yourself.

The Monastery in Cumberland is a popular hiking spot, which also makes it great for checking out  the foliage. You can look for the ruins of the old monastery while you’re out there, and you’re sure to see quite a lot of color along the way.

No list of beautiful spots in Rhode Island would be complete without mentioning Roger Williams Park in Providence. With its many different varieties of trees and its manicured, well kept landscape, Roger Williams is a great spot to see the changing of seasons first-hand.

Old Mountain Field in Wakefield is also a great spot. From the parking lot, you can head up one of several hiking trails. If you make a full loop of the woods, from the skate park to Indian Run Reservoir and back again, and you’ll see quite a bit.

There’s Colt State Park in Bristol, with more than four hundred acres of curving paths and old brick walls. It’s a particularly popular picnic spot and, with an unobstructed view of Narragansett Bay, it really is an ideal spot to visit this fall.

There’s Goddard State Park in Warwick which, in addition to its access to the shore and its many family-friendly diversions, has some of the best foliage in the state. Goddard is nearly 500 acres, and you can easily spend a whole day there, if not two.

Finally, nothing beats driving through the wilderness during the fall. If you want an unobstructed, isolated drive this fall, head out to Arcadia in Exeter. Arcadia is a popular camping spot, and nowhere in the state matches the view. Or take a drive through the Arcadia Management Area, fourteen thousand forested acres of natural beauty.
