Congratulations to These Rhode Island High School Seniors!

“SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS AND CEREMONY”

March is “Youth Art Month” and in celebration, The Wickford Art Association (WAA) will present its annual Scholarship Fund awards to three Rhode Island public high school senior art students with a fourth award presented by the Rhode Island Art Educators Association. The awards ceremony is on Friday March 31, 2017 at 6:30 pm at the Wickford Art Association, 36 Beach Street, North Kingstown, RI. The four winners will receive his or her own public art exhibit at the Wickford Art Association from March 21 to March 31, 2017 and an invitation to exhibit at the 55th Wickford Art Festival in July.

Rhode Island public high school choose one senior art student for consideration and the competition uses National Scholastic Standards overseen by the Rhode Island Art Educators Association. The four winning students will receive cash scholarships to use towards college in the fall of 2017.

The Wickford Art Association Scholarship Fund winners are:

• 1st  Place – $2,500: Remy Poissen from Classical High School, Providence, RI
• 2nd Place – $1.500: Mathew Charles Zanni from Ponaganset High School, North Scituate, RI
• 3rd Place – $1,000: Rebecca Steinbach from Portsmouth High School, Portsmouth, RI

The Rhode Island Art Education Association winner is:

• Presidents Award -$500: Jackson Kneath from Mount Hope High School, Bristol, RI

Honorable Mentions awarded to: Kelly Bryant, Coventry High School; Amelia Castelli, Scituate High School; Jordan Delisle, Lincoln High School; Katelin Fish, East Greenwich High School; Michaela LaCroix, North Kingstown High School; Tiffany LaRose, North Providence High School; Shannon Mathis, Middletown High School; Elinor Swanson, South Kingstown High School and Avery Weckman, Narragansett High School.

The four Scholarship Fund winners are also invited to exhibit their artwork during the 55th Wickford Art Festival in Wickford Village on July 8 and 9, 2017. The festival experience will help build their resume and teach the business side of art, including exhibiting their artwork to approximately 40,000 festival attendees and providing the opportunity to meet other professional artists and art collectors. Admission to the gallery and festival is free and open to the public.

The Wickford Art Association is a non-profit organization with 400 members from Rhode Island and New England. The association hosts art shows and classes in its gallery at 36 Beach Street in North Kingstown, and has produced the Wickford Art Festival every July since 1962. Wickford Art Association is dedicated to educating, encouraging and inspiring artists and art lovers of all ages throughout the community.
