Cumberland, RI has a new Tap in Town, And Every Body’s Talking

Cumberland, RI has a new Tap in Town, and every body’s talking….. After a soft opening and two weeks in the real world, the town of Cumberland and surrounding communities are already sharing great reviews for the new restaurant/pub that decided to call Cumberland it’s home.

Charlie Greene and Patrick Johnson have an impressive background in the restaurant / hospitality industry and have been brewing the idea of joining forces to create the perfect pub for quite some time. And when they learned that the former Friendly Tap was a potential location for their dream pub, they did not hesitate to explore the possibilities.

Long story short, in April the boys closed on the business transaction and after a ton of labor, love and ambition transformed a local pub to what today, they had envisioned from the start. A neighborhood pub welcome to all, with an Irish warmth featuring food, fun & entertainment for Cumberland and the surrounding communities.

We visited The Tap during the soft opening and was beyond impressed. Even with their limited soft opening menu, you felt like you were in an established business with years of confidence. Our server was Ruth, and she was beyond attentive and delightful. The owners (Charlie & Patrick) make it a point to welcome you and learn a bit about you. A lost hospitality art in modern times, it is obvious that The Tap Cumberland is in it for the long haul.

Our food choices were awesome, Irish Nachos were a twist on the traditional nachos and cheese with a homemade potato in house chip as the star (go figure), awesome buffalo wings and the Patsy Spice Bag, (a brown bag loaded with fries, chicken tender bits, fried onions and peppers tossed in a house slice blend). Can’t wait till the The Tap unveils the standard regular offerings.

What makes The Tap special is the vibe, the moment you walk in you do not feel like you are invading someone else’ space, but more like where have you been?

We totally loved our first impression and all that followed. And the music pumped in through the perfectly volumed tunes were eclectically perfect.

During our visit we noticed an unoccupied inviting mini stage awaiting a performer. Charlie assured us that entertainment is always going to be a part of The Tap’s offerings.  After a bit of digging, we found out that both proprietors have a strong musical background and love of live entertainment.
