Did You Know Providence is the #1 Worst Place to Hide During a Zombie Attack?

Zombies, Vampires, and Ghosts, Oh My! Will your home be safe when the creatures of the night come knocking? Halloween is just around the corner, and according to Trulia in the article, “Where to Avoid Ghastly Unnatural Hazards: Zombies, Vampires and Ghosts.” New England is a pretty spooky place. Particularly Providence, RI, and Boston, MA, both of which ranked in the top ten twice on Trulia’s creepy city roundups. To create the rankings, Trulia crunched numbers from Yelp, the U.S Census, and OpenStreetMaps to determine the amount of Unnatural Hazards in a given area. There’s some grave news for Providencers, with 11.5 cemeteries per 50,000 people. Providence ranked first on Trulia’s list of the “10 Worst Places to Hide During a Zombie Attack.” That’s a lot of potential walking dead!  Rounding out the top three were Nashville, TN, at 8.6 cemeteries per 50,000 people, and Hartford, CT, at 7.6 cemeteries per 50,000 people.  Boston, MA ranked fifth with 6.3 cemeteries per 50,000 people.

Trulia also found the top cities in the nation where the likelihood of getting bitten by a vampire is the highest. It is known that Vamps need blood to survive, so it seems only natural that covens would congregate near blood banks and hospitals. At the top of the, “10 Places where You’re Likely to Get Attacked By A Vampire” list were San Diego, CA, with 3.2 Blood Banks and Hospitals per 50,000 people, Austin TX, with 3.0 per 50,000 people and San Francisco-Oakland, CA, with 2.5 per 50,000 people. Thankfully the only New England locale that made that list was Boston, MA in seventh place with 2.2 Blood Banks and Hospitals per 50,000 people. Phew! The east coast would have trouble enough with all those Zombies!

However, Trulia also found out the “10 Places you’re Most likely to have a Ghostly Encounter” cataloging the spookiest looking, (and thus most haunted) places in the country. It was a very scientific endeavor, not at all random. Providence ranked fourth on that list behind New Orleans, LA, Seattle, WA, and Kansas City, MO.

So whether you’re out trick-or-treating with kids, dancing the night away at a monster mash, or inching through a terrifying haunted house this Halloween, be sure to steer clear or the blood banks, hospitals and cemeteries, after all, you never know when you encounter a real zombie, vampire or ghost.  Happy Halloween!
