This Saturday, May 27, will be the start of a 3-day weekend at Charlestown’s General Stanton Inn Flea Market.

Now celebrating its 52nd season, the outdoor flea market is expanding to include Saturdays, Sundays and holiday Mondays, until it closes for the year on Columbus Day, October 9. The Flea Market hours are 8 a.m.- 3 p.m. Early birds are encouraged

Since the 2017 season opened at the end of April, The General Stanton Inn Flea Market has been open on Sundays only.

The Flea Market takes place on the tree-shaded, seven-acre grounds, of the historic General Stanton Inn, 4115 Old Post Road (02813). With three of Charlestown’s beaches nearby, The General Stanton Inn Flea Market has become renowned for its’ nautical antiques.

In addition to antiques, collectibles, and hand-crafted goods, The General Stanton Inn Flea Market features art, new merchandise and Farmers’ Market items. 10 x 20-feet vendor spaces are available for $25. -$35. per day, depending on location and date. As always, non-profit organizations are invited to set up informational and fundraising booths at The General Stanton Inn Flea market for free. All vendors are asked to supply their own tables and chairs, and to bring clean, clearly-priced merchandise to sell.

Booth reservations can be made by contacting Janice Falcone, owner of the The General Stanton Inn, at 401-364-1818. Overnight accommodations at the inn, which was established in 1667, can also be reserved, by calling the same number.

Food and drink merchants are invited to contact Mrs. Falcone about space availability and fees for this season’s weekly flea market

A new addition at The General Stanton Inn Flea Market, this year, is The Indoor Flea Market Cottage, specializing in antiques. The Indoor Flea Market Cottage is open during all the weekend hours of The Flea Market, and is also open weekdays by appointment: 401-932-6559. A variety of credit cards are accepted at this new market-within-the- market.

Specific items for sale at this Season’s General Stanton Inn Antiques and Collectibles Flea Market, include: advertising signs/crates, art, baskets, books, bottles, brewerania, cameras, cast iron items, clothing, Coca-Cola collectibles, coins, crockery, decoys, ephemera, farm implements, fishing gear, furniture, gardening items, glassware, hand bags, jewelry, kitchen collectibles, knives, lamps/ lanterns, linens, locks, military memorabilia, sculpture, nautical goods, post cards, pottery, primitives, printers’ type, record players, sewing machines, tins, silver, soda pop collectibles, vintage purses, vintage tools and toys, vintage clothing, and assorted crafts, sports collectibles, and small-batch edibles.

Flea Market admission is free.
There’s a $2 parking fee only on Sundays.
Charlestown’s Memorial Day Parade will step off at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 28, at Ridgewood Road and Old Post Road. It will pass right by The General Stanton Inn and Flea Market at 4115 Old Post Road. Then it will go to Cross’ Mills Baptist Church, where wreath placement will be held in the cemetery. It will then proceed to Cross’ Mills Brook, where a wreath will be placed in the water. It will end at Fort Neck Road, where parade participants will board school buses to travel to Ninigret Park for a ceremony at the Navy War Memorial and then to the Kimball Pavilion in Ninigret Park, where the Wakefield Concert Band will play and a ceremony with observances and speeches will be held. Following that, there will be a free picnic for participants in Ninigret Park. (Extracted from The Westerly Sun.)
