Extremely Rare Blue Lobster Caught in Galilee

Each afternoon in Galilee the fishing boats return with a cargo full of fresh lobsters and crabs, many of the boats actually sell lobsters and crabs right off the dock. That’s about as fresh as it gets! One lucky crustacean will not make it to the dinner table due to its uniqueness.

Mark Jones, Captain of the “Kristen J.” fishing vessel proudly displayed his unique catch on Monday, August 14^th upon his return to the docks. Blue lobsters when found vary in brightness, Capt. Jones’ catch was a stunning bright blue.

According to oceanographers, only an estimated one in two million lobsters is blue. The coloration comes from a genetic defect that causes the lobster to produce an excessive amount of a particular protein that gives the lobster that unique coloration.

Visiting the fishing docks in Point Judith, Galilee and watching the fishing crews in action upon their return from the sea is a real experience. The port of Galilee is an authentic working New England fishing village. Galilee also offers a great selection of seafood restaurants, shops and is close to two state beaches, Roger Wheeler and Salty Brine.
