Holiday Pies!!

Holiday gatherings mean reconnecting with family and friends, keeping warm while the snow falls outside, and, of course, lots and lots of food. You have a lot of dessert options available, from cookies and brownies to cakes, but if you want something a bit nicer than the usual fare—as well as something that’s made locally—you may want to take a look at the great variety of pies for sale around Rhode Island.
To start, you could pay a visit to Shartner Farms, at 1 Arnold Place in Exeter. This South County staple is located right on Route 2 in South Kingstown, a few miles up the road from the URI campus in Kingstown. Try out one of their delicious pies, made daily on-site. Their blueberry pie is a rich treat that’s certain to fill you up. Or, if you’re looking for something that goes good with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, you might want to pick up one of their Dutch apple pies. If you’ve got a big event to plan for, call ahead and have your order ready for pick-up.
Or you could stop by Phantom Farms, located at 2920 Diamond Hill Road in Cumberland, less than a mile off of 295. They have a great pie selection, including some old standards like apple pie and pecan pie. Or, if you’re feeling adventurous, try out their seasonal egg custard pie, or their strawberry rhubarb pie, a delicious combination of two great flavors.
For something a bit different, drop by Harley’s Pork Pies, located at 871 Smithfield Avenue in Lincoln, where you can grab a box of freshly-made pork, beef, or chicken pies.
