Whether you’re a Newport native, someone who only occasionally makes it across the bridges, or you’re visiting for the first time, the island has a lot to offer. If you’re looking for a fun seasonal activity, you should stop by the Sovereign Bank Family Skating Center, also known as the Newport Skating Center.  Ice skating in Newport, RI is fabulous winter fun!  The ice rink is located at 4 Commercial Wharf, right on Newport Harbor. The rink is built on the harbor, right on America’s Cup Avenue. If you’re coming off of the Newport Bridge, take the very first exit once you’re off the bridge and follow 138A down for less than a mile, and you’ll see it on your right.

Driving into Newport can often be an ordeal, and finding parking in Newport can be almost as much of a pain in the neck as finding parking in downtown Providence. However, the rink offers free parking for all patrons, which is one less thing you’ll need to worry about. There is also a full concession stand, in case you need to warm up with a cup of apple cider or hot cocoa. Admission price is variable. Admission is free from 5:00 to 9:00 PM, Monday and Wednesday. Standard adult admission is $7.00, while senior citizen’s and children’s admission is $5.00. Children three years and younger are not charged for admission. Skates are available for rental, and if you bring your own, the rink offers skate sharpening. There are also skating lessons for both children and adults, regardless of your skill level. The Newport Skating Center will be hosting several special events this winter, including a tree lighting on December the 6th at 5:00 PM, and a “Skate with Santa” on December 12th and 19th.
