Ice Skating in Providence, RI

There’s plenty to see and to do in Providence during the winter, but if you’re walking around downtown by Kennedy Plaza, it would be pretty difficult to miss the Bank of America City Center ice rink. Since the late nineties, ice skating in Providence, RI has been a staple of downtown, and offers a great diversion during a clear winter day.  The rink is located next to Burnside Park and right across the street from the Kennedy Plaza bus depot. Finding street parking in the blocks surrounding Kennedy Plaza can be a challenge, but you can always park at the Providence Place garage and walk to the rink, which should only take a few minutes.

Entry to the rink is $7 for adults, and $4 dollars for children 12 and under, seniors 65 and older, and members of the military. Skates can be rented for a flat rate of $5. There are also season passes for individuals, families, and even “Lunch Special” and “After-Work Special” season passes, well-suited to this who work in the city.  Ice skating in Providence, RI…fun for all!
If you’re new to ice skating, or you’ve done it before and could use a brush up, the City Center ice rink offers skating lessons. There will be two six-week courses this winter, the first of which starts on December 7th. Skating lessons will take place on Saturday mornings from 9:30 to 10:30, and the six week course costs $150.

If you’re looking for something a bit more private, the rink offers private rentals, whether that’s for a birthday party, a school outing, or any other skating event. However, if you want a reservation for this winter, you should act sooner than later if you want to find a free time slot.
If you’ve walked by the ice rink for years and never gone in, consider giving it a try this winter season. And if you need an excuse to stop by the rink, come check out the tree lighting ceremony on December 7th at 5:30 PM.
