On Thursday, April 18 th , Katie Parla will visit Sarto in Downtown Providence while on her book tour. Signed copies of the highly-anticipated work, titled Food of the Italian South , will be made available for purchase, along with a four-course dinner comprised of 8-10 family style plates. Wine and amaro pairings from Lamoresca will be served, and an a la carte beverage menu, including Don Ciccio & Figli specialty cocktails, will be available.
Katie Parla is a Rome-based food and beverage educator and journalist. Originally from New Jersey, she has an art history degree from Yale, a master’s degree in Italian Gastronomic Culture from the Università degli Studi di Roma “Tor Vergata”, a sommelier certificate from the Federazione Italiana Sommelier Albergatori Ristoratori, and an archeological speleology certification from the city of Rome. Katie’s mission is to highlight great food and beverages, praise the people dedicated to feeding us well, and to get readers talking about what they are eating and drinking. She focuses special attention on Rome, where she lives, threats to local food culture, and critical reviews of restaurants and trends.
The meal to be served includes dishes such as Vegetables Sott’olio, Frizelle Capunata, Orrechiette Grano con Burrata, Pomodorini e Pesto, Cortono with Lamb, a Spring Vegetable Stew with Local Fish, and a cookie plate. These expertly prepared dishes will be as authentic as dining in Italy itself. Meanwhile, the wine pairings will be from Lamoresca. Founder Filippo Rizzo built this winery from the ground up in the southern most corner of the province of Catania, between Etna and Gela on the southern coast, at 450 meters above sea level: a remote location that has particularly rare soil conditions. This assists Filippo in his mission to produce the finest quality wine naturally and additive free.
The cost is $65 for the dinner and $35 for wine pairings. Complimentary parking is available. Reservations can be made at sartoprovidence.com.
