Our state has some of the best seafood in the country, but we don’t always end up eating the freshest stuff. Whether you’re eating food that’s been frozen, shipped in from out of state, or both, you can do a lot better if you know where to look. An excellent example of Rhode Island’s great seafood is the Matunuck Oyster Bar. They’re delicious, comfortable, and very fresh.

And when I say fresh, I mean fresh. Both the oysters and the vegetables you’ll be eating are harvested on site. The Matunuck Oyster Farm, which you can quite literally see from the restaurant, supplies delicious, fresh, and extremely local seafood to the Oyster Bar. The Matunuck Oyster Bar prides itself on its green, sustainable, and local growing habits.

Their seafood selection is fantastic. On top of the oysters you’ll be enjoying, you can find regional specialties such as lobster, clams, cod, and littlenecks. If someone in your party isn’t a fan of seafood, they can enjoy a rib eye steak, pesto penne, or any number of other non-seafood dishes.

If you’re not sure what to order, or if your party is in the mood for a sampler tray, try out the Islander, which consists of twelve oysters, six littlenecks, and four cocktail shrimp.

Speaking of cocktails, the Matunuck Oyster Bar in Rhode Island has a full selection of wine, beer, and various spirits. From a bottle of 2007 pinot to a double of Glenlivet scotch, you’ll be able to find something to satiate your palate.

The Matunuck Oyster Bar in Rhode Island is located at 629 Succotash Road in Matunuck, South Kingstown. It’s just a few minutes up the road from the East Matunuck Beach. From the front of the restaurant, you have a beautiful view of the marsh across the street, and the restaurant itself sits on the waters of Potters Pond. If you catch a warm day, and you get an outdoor table, you can eat looking out over the very waters your dinner came from. You really can’t get more local, or more fresh, than that.
