 Blue skies are coming our way! With Memorial Day weekend around the corner, we’d like to remind you that Rhode Island is one of the best summer destinations. Brimming with fun-in-the-sun events, there’s no better place to kick-start the season or to honor those who bravely serve our country. From festive fire displays to a grand list of Memorial Day parades, there’s something for the whole family to enjoy! Check out these outings in date order:

FRIDAY, MAY 26th

 

Freedom Friday in South Kingstown

Sons of Liberty Beer & Spirits Company

5 p.m. – 10 p.m.

Free Admission (21+)

Sit back, sip on some drinks and relax as the South Tower Strummers kick off the weekend with some Bluegrass Country tunes. Jeff’s Wood Fired Pizza will also be present for guests to snack on some of their awesome grilled pizza.

 

Misquamicut Drive-In Movies

Wuskenau Town Beach (Pondside Lot)

Gates open – 6:30 p.m. / Showtime – 9 p.m.

SATURDAY, MAY 27th

 

6th Annual Antique Car & Antique Show

Cory Farms Past & Presents, 3124 East Main Road, Portsmouth
10:00am to 5:30pm

If you are a fan of all things from yesteryear, than Cory Farms Past & Presents’ 6th Annual Antique Car & Antique Show is for you! The event will consist of a car show (where you might even get to see some vintage VW models), along with three barns packed with antiques. Their store offers antiques originating from the United States and abroad, along with handmade items made by local artisans. FYI: If it is rainy, the event will be rescheduled for June 3.

She’s beauty and she’s grace! Add some friendly competition to your weekend by watching the Miss Rhode Island Scholarship Organization crown the 2017 Miss Rhode Island and Miss Rhode Island’s Outstanding Teen in Newport! Watch as 26 young women from across the state take to the stage to compete for the crown. This exciting event starts on Saturday and ends on Sunday night! More details can be found here.

 

WATERFIRE PROVIDENCE

Waterplace Park, Providence

Waterfire usually makes our lists for a reason! This award-winning sculpture by Barnaby Evans installed on the three rivers of downtown Providence, has been praised by Rhode Island residents and international visitors alike as a powerful work of art and a moving symbol of Providence’s renaissance. WaterFire’s over eighty sparkling bonfires, the fragrant scent of aromatic wood smoke, the flickering firelight on the arched bridges, the silhouettes of the fire-tenders passing by the flames, the torch-lit vessels traveling down the river, and the enchanting music from around the world engage all the senses and emotions of those who stroll the paths of Waterplace Park. All full WaterFire installations light up over eighty braziers from Waterplace Park to Memorial/South Main Street Park. Sounds like a great holiday celebration!

 

SUNDAY, MAY 28th

God Bless America

Greenwood Community Church

Join the Greenwood Church Concert Choir for “God Bless America” a celebration of patriotic music and American spirituals, also featuring: children’s choir, vocal soloists, hand bells and much more.

All Weekend Long:


Virtu Arts Festival in Westerly is a vibrant celebration of artists and their wares.  Over 180 vendors will be on display at Wilcox Park on the 27th and the 28th from 10am-5pm!

Gaspee Days Arts and Craft Festival will take place Saturday through Monday and will offer over 100 vendors with handmade items, live music, food court and more!

MONDAY, MAY 29th (MEMORIAL DAY)

One of the most fun ways to commemorate Rhode Island’s lost service members at a local parade!
