Newport Comedy Series…Face Hurting Fun!

Newport Comedy Series, which is produced by Joe Rocco and Bill Blumenreich. Joe Rocco is well known by Rhode Islanders as an Emmy winning sportscaster, event producer, and maker of documentary and promotional films. Bill Blumenreich is the owner of the two Comedy Connection nightclubs, and the Wilbur Theatre, a top drawing venue in Boston. The two have worked together over the years to build a series that features an extremely consistent laugh per ticket dollar value, and they are rightly proud of the big names that have walked and talked on their stage, including in past years acts like Louis CK, Tracy Morgan, Joan Rivers, Kevin Hart, and Jeff Dunham. While audiences have grown used to the venue of the past few years, the 1700 seat Newport Yachting Center, they will surely adapt to the series’ new venue, the Newport Hyatt, on Goat Island. The Hyatt’s views and amenities, including free parking and an intimate 900 seat performance space, are ideal for this event. This year’s series begins on July 25, with a night featuring three headliners: Boston’s Mike Donovan, a past success in Newport who has been featured on Showtime and Fox Sports; Ray Harrington, whose recent release, “The Worst is Over”, topped both the iTunes and Amazon comedy charts; and Justin McKinney, who has had two featured Comedy Central performances, along with appearances on the Tonight Show, Conan, and the King of Queens. Comedian Bob Marley has just been announced to appear on August 14th. Funny lady Kathy Griffin will tickle funny bones on August 21st. Paula Poundstone takes the stage on October 9th. On Friday, November 13th, a woman that, Rocco says, might be the “funniest person in America” right now, Natasha Leggero, will perform. Natasha recently blew minds with her hilarious lack of limits at the Justin Bieber roast, and is set to get America laughing in the new Comedy Central series Another Period, premiering this summer. Newport Comedy Series performances help support the A Wish Come True charity, and have raised over $12,000 for the charity in recent years. With performances from 200 comedians over 15 years, Rocco and Blumenreich have built a trust with their audiences, that their venue and performers will bring the funny in a big way.
