20,000 fans expected. Over 50 bands set. Three summer days scheduled.

The world-renowned Newport Jazz Festival- presented by Natixis Global Asset Management is swinging into the summer once again, and people are pumped. Boasting a stellar lineup, the annual three-day event will run August 4 – 6 at the International Tennis Hall of Fame at the Newport Casino and in Fort Adams State Park. This year, the summer affair will pay homage to the 100th birthdays of music legends Dizzy Gillespie, Ella Fitzgerald, Mongo Santamaria and Thelonious Monk.
Among the glittering 2017 headliners is Tony and Grammy-winning performer Leslie Odom Jr., who is best known for playing Aaron Burr in the Broadway blockbuster “Hamilton” (perhaps you’ve heard of it?). Another recognizable act on the lineup is The Roots, who will be leaving 30 Rockefeller Plaza in NYC just for the engagement. The Grammy-winning crew is most known for being the official band on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, where they perform nightly. As if the artists alone aren’t enough to attendees excited, the fest will also feature some incredible craft and food vendors from all over the country!

The committee has decided to give out a free taste of the Newport Jazz Festival a day ahead of its’ official launch with “A Bridge Together.” On August 3 there will be a free night of international music and dance at Fort Adams. The complimentary event will connect American jazz, African beats and Indian Carnatic music. With a visually exciting melding of cultures, it aims to educate and entertain audiences by introducing them to humanities from distant places and celebrating what unites us all here in Newport.
