Newport was given an “exclusive” window to secure a stopover in the next Volvo race. What can we say, Newport knows how to throw a party…was there ever any doubt? Being the only North American stopover, there was a bit of a pressure there. Luckily, more than 125,000 visitors passed through the entry way of the Race Village during the stop-over. And, more that 13,000 were in attendance to wish this fleet on their way. This does not include those that were spectating from the water and other venues such as Castle Hill, Brenton Point and a variety of locations along the way. This massive number is close to double the amount the city had hoped to draw, safely securing themselves an “exclusive” opportunity to be a stop-over during the next Volvo Ocean Race!
