The “Pazmanian Devil” Hits the Big Screen with RI in his Corner!!

RI Blogger was pleased to have been invited to the private screening and red carpet event for the premier of “Bleed for This” at the Providence Place Mall.

“Bleed for This” is based on the incredible true story of our own Vinnie Pazienza, one of the most inspiring and unlikely comebacks in sports history.   Miles Teller (most known for Whiplash and Divergent) stars as Vinny “The Pazmanian Devil”, a local Providence boxer who shot to stardom after winning two world title fights. The film also features Aaron Eckhart, Katey Sagal, Ciarán Hinds and Ted Levine in supporting roles.

After a near-fatal car accident leaves Vinny with a severed spine, doctors tell him he may never walk again. With the help of renowned trainer Kevin Rooney (Aaron Eckhart), Vinny becomes a legend when he not only walks again, but miraculously returns to the ring to reclaim his title belt.

The film was outstanding, the talented cast made this film as real as it gets with lots of moments that only a Rhode Islander may get.  The Paz is not the only local part of this amazing film, “Bleed for This” was produced by Cranston’s own Chad Verdi. Location shoots include Twin River Casino and the Dunkin Donuts Center. Needless to say, there is a lot of RI packed into this movie.

The film had its world premiere at the 43rd Annual Telluride Film Festival on September 2, 2016 with rave reviews and opens in the United States on November 18^th.
