Providence Boat Show
They don’t call Rhode Island the Ocean State for nothing; boating has been an important part of Rhode Island’s culture and economy for a long, long time. The Providence Boat Show is once again being held at the Providence Convention Center, from Friday, January 31st through Sunday, February 2nd. Whether you’ve never stepped on a boat in your life or you’ve got sailing in your blood, the Boat Show is always an interesting event, and is definitely worth a visit.

Even if you’re not attending, it’s difficult to miss the boat show if you’re in downtown Providence. Every year it draws thousands of people. The main draw of the show is probably the boat displays throughout the exhibit halls, from canoes and kayaks to sailboats and powerboats.
One section of the exhibit hall, the H20 Zone, will specifically feature smaller boats and hydrofoils. If you have any interest in single passenger boats, this section is definitely worth a visit.
On the center stage, there will be a number of special exhibits and activities. Check out the SurfSet exhibit, which features a surf training system that allows you to practice surfing on dry land.

Along with the exhibits, there will also be two seminar series during the Providence Boat Show. This year’s seminars will concern fishing and seamanship. Captain John Martino will be speaking on the subjects of navigation and seamanship, with a focus on new technology.
Captain Jack Sprengel’s seminar will concern sport fishing.
For those interested in fishing, there will be demonstrations by local chefs and fisherman on how to properly clean and prepare freshly-caught fish.
The Providence Boat Show will be open from 10:00 AM until 7:00 PM on Friday, January 31st; from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM on Saturday, February 1st; and from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Sunday, February 2nd. Tickets are $12—keep in mind that the tickets are good for one day only, so plan accordingly. Children under twelve have free admittance at The Providence Boat Show, as long as they are accompanied by an adult.
