What is the Rhode Island international Horror Film Festival?

RI International Horror Film Festival

Horror Film FestivalThe Rhode Island International Horror Film Festival is celebrating its thirteenth season this October.   A number of local entries, and the dozens of different horror films from fifteen different countries are just the start of the horror related festivities.

There will be quite a few great films playing over the course of the festival: sixty-two in all. In addition, there will be plenty of short films, as well as some feature-length horror films and a few documentaries.  These films explore the horror genre and its numerous different styles and permutations, and will feature a number of international films, from the animated Irish horror film “Tea With the Dead” to “Payada pa’ Satan,” an Argentine film about a tunnel leading from hell to Earth.  So much scary screen time to be had!

It may be surprising, but this Horror Film Festival is actually family-friendly, at least in certain instances. On Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st, there will be a number of G-rated short films at the Providence Public Library.

There are also a number of other events taking place during the festival. On October the 21st, the panel “Writing the Horror Film” will be held at 6:00 PM, with screenwriter, director, and Rhode Island native Chris Sparling. And on October the 23rd, there will be a movie-making panel at Roger Williams University. Entitled the Art, Substance and Style of Making Horror and Sci-Fi Films, this panel is free and will start at 10:00 AM at the Mary Tefft White Cultural Center in Bristol.

The International Horror Film Festival will run from October 20th through the 26th. Most screenings cost $10, but be sure to check their site for details. To learn more, visit their website here.
