Rhode Island native Andy Stone has been on the creative move all his professional life — television, novel writing and of course creating and performing original music.
RI Blogger had the pleasure of interviewing Andy in June of 2020 for the release of his full-length CD, “Every Single Day”. From the first listen, we were hooked and could not wait to hear more from this gifted writer. Needless to say, we were quite excited to learn that Andy was releasing new original material this summer.
Andy’s new four-track EP, entitled “Plug In” was released in July 2024 and has already created quite the buzz within the New England music scene and beyond. The short but sweet EP collection of four tracks delivers Andy’s signature style of catchy tunes with great hooks, lyrics and vocals.
As with all of Andy’s rock/pop compositions, they never overstay their welcome, leaving the listener wanting more. Not surprising from an artist who was influenced by bands from the British invasion, new wave and alternative eras.
Collaborating with Andy (lead and backing vocals, guitars, bass, keyboards) on the EP is Emerson Torrey (producer, guitar, keys and backing vocals), Richard Ribb (bass guitar), Adam Cargin (drums) and Mike Mills (piano on Love Isn’t Only).
The first track on “Plug In” is “Got No Clue”, an upbeat fun tune that hooks you from the opening riff. The catchy song refers to the uncertainty of knowing someone else, clueless. The second track, “Love Isn’t Only” is a song observing relationships within the love category. The mid-tempo tune is well crafted with a smooth marriage of verse, chorus and bridge that hooks on the importance of honesty.
Track three takes us to “Turn Into We”, a bouncy beat, whimsical tune that suggests turning two into one as in “We”. A concept that has been explored many times in pop music, Andy’s approach is a fresh take on the subject wrapped within a truly enjoyable song.
The EP closes with “We Share Something”, a fast-moving song with an interesting and fun arrangement. As with every song on this compilation, it is a dose of rock n roll that will leave you wanting more.
