Surf Cantina opened its doors in November and has been making a name for itself ever since. I had heard the rumors about a new “must try” place in Westerly and finally made my way there. The entire experience was exceptional. We were greeted at the door, promptly sat, and expertly cared for by our server. Surf Cantina, as its name suggests, is a beachy upscale vibe. The interior is inviting and begs you to stay for one more marg. Speaking of margaritas, these are some of the best around. The Town Beach is a classic version while the Bikini Line is spicy with jalapeno and cucumber. In addition to Margaritas, there is a well-rounded specialty cocktail menu. Next time I think I will try the Naked Famous Surfer made with Mezcal, Yellow Chartreuse, Aperal, and Lime.

Once you’ve sat and ordered your cocktail, dip into some made-to-order guacamole with warm tortilla chips, you can even order double avocado! Appetizer highlights include Ceviche, Octopus & Chorizo, Surf Nachos, Beef Sliders, and more. The Mexican Street Corn makes a great app or side dish, either way, it is a must-try! We went straight to the signature tacos section on the main course. The Birria Tacos were juicy and savory, just the way you’d expect. If you are looking for a vegetarian option, the avocado tacos were crispy and delicious! You can choose from Chicken Tinga, Pork Belly, Baja Fish, Steak, Shrimp, or Pork Carnitas. The menu is extensive and offers soups, salads, handhelds, entrees, and weekend lunch and brunch. The Mexican Fish and Chips or the Seacoast Blue Oyster Mushrooms are also worth a mention. The takeaway, make your way to Surf Cantina in Westerly for an inspired experience in Mexican cuisine.
