Tomorrow is Iced Coffee Day, Drink Coffee and Make a Difference!

Iced Coffee Day, Dunkin’ Donuts’ annual fundraising initiative to support Hasbro Children’s Hospital, is less than a week away – and local franchisees this morning announced an exciting list of special events planned across the region to celebrate the occasion.

On Wednesday, May 23, every time you buy an iced coffee at Dunkin’ Donuts restaurant locations in Rhode Island and Bristol County, Massachusetts, local Dunkin’ Donuts franchisees will donate $1 to Hasbro Children’s Hospital. Since its launch in 2010, the annual Iced Coffee Day initiative has helped raise well over $2 million for the hospital.

“I can speak for all of my fellow Dunkin’ Donuts franchisees when I say Iced Coffee Day is one of our favorite annual events,” said Dunkin’ Donuts franchisee Joe Prazeres. “Hasbro Children’s Hospital is an incredible organization that has changed—and saved—countless lives. We could not be more proud to support them. We hope everyone will come out on Wednesday, May 23 to buy an iced coffee and join in on a great cause.”

To help celebrate the day, Dunkin’ Donuts is planning to bring in several elected officials, local celebrities and community leaders to serve as “guest employees” at select locations around the area. Confirmed special guests include: New England Patriots cornerback Devin McCourty; University of Rhode Island Men’s Basketball Head Coach David Cox; NBC’s The Voice star Emily Luther; Pawtucket Mayor Donald Grebien; and players and mascots from Providence College, the Pawtucket Red Sox and the Providence Bruins.

“Not only is Iced Coffee Day one of our hospital’s most important annual fundraisers, it also provides an opportunity for people across our communities to make a direct impact on the lives of our patients and their families,” said Margaret M. Van Bree, MHA, DrPH, President of Rhode Island Hospital and Hasbro Children’s Hospital. “Words alone cannot express our thanks to Dunkin’ Donuts, their franchisees and customers, for their continued generosity and support.”

This year, to help spread the word about Iced Coffee Day and add an extra layer of support for the patients at Hasbro Children’s Hospital, Dunkin’ Donuts has partnered with Good Night Lights, the locally iconic tradition of shining flashlights toward Hasbro Children’s Hospital to let the patients know folks are always thinking of them.

Throughout the month of May, select Dunkin’ Donuts locations have been giving away free keychain flashlights to customers. And on Wednesday night, Dunkin’ Donuts franchisees are inviting the public to take their flashlights and meet in India Point Park in Providence, where they can join Good Night Lights founder Steve Brosnihan and local police officers, firefighters and other first responders to be a part of one of the largest Good Night Lights events of the year. The Good Night Lights event will run from 7 – 9 p.m. in India Point Park. Dunkin’ Donuts franchisees will provide family-friendly music, games and activities for attendees, and Dunkin’ Donuts iced coffees will be available for a suggested $1 donation to Hasbro Children’s Hospital.

“I’m proud of what Good Night Lights has become, and how it continues to grow. What started as one exchange between me and a patient at Hasbro Children’s Hospital in 2010 has grown into a nightly ritual of support from people and businesses all across Rhode Island and Massachusetts,” said Good Night Lights founder and conductor Steve Brosnihan. “The fact that we see lights shining every night at 8:30 is a testament to the generous, caring hearts of Rhode Islanders, and all those who join the display. Big thanks to Dunkin’ Donuts for shining its own spotlight on this project and its volunteer community intent on raising the spirits of hospitalized children. I’m looking forward to celebrating Iced Coffee Day on May 23rd and being part of the brightest Good Night Lights signal thus far.”
