Hello Beer Lovers! I am back with another Rhode Island specialty! It is a hidden gem from Providence’s Trinity Beer Company. Let’s talk India Pale Ale or IPA.
If my history is correct, sometime in the 1700s, England sent troops to India to…ya know.. to socialize and such! Well, they got thirsty and longed for libations from home. Poor buggers! A dude that ran a brewery of pale ale decided to figure how to ship his product and preserve it in the heat by adding more hops and increase the alcohol content! His name was Hodgson and in my opinion he needs a statue on the front lawn of every IPA drinker in the world! Interested in learning more of the history here are a few links:
Trinity Beer Company has made a lovely IPA that emulates our dear Hodgson with its beautiful bitter hops evolution on the palate ending smoothly and earthy. I paired my bitter, hoppy IPA with a wonderful Italian cheese called “Piave”. Please try both of these delectable treats together because in my humble opinion they are a rare match made in heaven.
