Tumblesalts Cafe…Something for Everyone!

There really is something for everyone at this unique eatery. This restaurant feels quaint and comfortable, but it is actually very large and has several different spaces each with its own individual feel. You can choose from the Cafe, Tavern, Pub or Pizza Station. If that doesn’t impress you the delicious Italian American food definitely will! During our trip here we chose to try out the pub, it has a small gastropub feel and offers a full bar, specialty cocktails and both the full tavern menu and a pub menu. They have several TVs including one large one which would be perfect for catching a game on (if you have a sports fan in your family this is the place for them). In the pub they offer half-priced appetizers from 4-6pm, so we took full advantage of this and sampled most of their appetizers. This special excludes the Tower of Pisa but, a little birdie aka Brooke told us we couldn’t miss it. The Tower of Pisa is a fantastically organized piece of food art including meats, cheeses, and accouterments. If you are into antipasto and cheese plates, you will LOVE this! Next, we tried the Arancini Balls, the perfectly cooked risotto combined with cheese and peas and then deep fried is one of my favorite appetizers, and this did not disappoint. The peas really gave it great flavor and different texture (Beckett approved).

Eggplant Parmesan is one of my favorites, so we had to try the Tumble’s Rollatini (they also offer an Eggplant parmesan as a dinner entree, that will be for next time). The eggplant was perfectly cooked, and it was served covered (and I mean covered) in cheese and marinara sauce; just the way I like it!  When in Rhode Island, I feel like you have to try the Calamari, after all, it is our state’s signature dish. There are two different options on the menu, and we chose the Tumbles House calamari. They were covered with olives, hot pepper rings, tomato, and goat cheese and topped with a balsamic glaze, amazing. For me the goat cheese was the shining star, I thought it was such a different twist on the classic and added such a great flavor.

Last but not least we decided to try one of their flatbreads which features house-made dough. We chose the Prosciutto and fig (my all-time favorite). The flatbread was perfect (not to thin, not too think and nice and crispy) the fig jam was perfection and added a hint of sweetness which matched nicely with the salty prosciutto. For an entree, we ordered the Shrimp and Scallop Scampi. The seafood was fresh and seasoned perfectly, the pasta was cooked al dente (which is very important to me), and the scampi sauce was almost creamy because of the parmesan cheese, absolutely delicious. As if that wasn’t enough, we had to try the desserts. I mean how can you give a full review if you don’t taste the desserts, right?! We all split the Carrot cake, Cannoli, and Lemon Berry Mascarpone Cake. All three were delightful, but the Marscarpone cake was my absolute favorite. It was flavorful, light and moist and everything you want in a cake! Overall I was very impressed by the food. The menu has a little something for everyone in your party including soups, salads, several different kinds of seafood, and steak choices as well as some house favorites and burgers. I will definitely be back to try out some more from their mouthwatering menu.

As for the other rooms, the upstairs dining room also known as the tavern is cozy and has several larger tables for larger parties. It would be an excellent option for date night or family dinner. The Cafe is the next room to dine in. It is bright and airy with a Moroccan feel and has a gorgeous selection of desserts. This would be so cute for a first date option or even a coffee date with a friend. In the next building is their room for special occasions (the umbrella room). This would be perfect for smaller parties or bridal/baby showers; after all, you know the food is excellent!

Last but not least is the Pizza station, this room offers a few tables, a more extensive full-service bar, and a separate menu. Brooke and her boyfriend Bryan love stopping in here for dinner and to watch sports games. Make sure to check the website for hours because the pizza bar does have different hours

Now that spring and summer are almost here the Boat bar upstairs will be open soon. We did not check this out (because it’s not open and its freezing still ), but it is a summer rooftop deck and lounge area perfect for drinks and apps; the pictures online look fantastic.

Overall we loved this unique spot; we will definitely be back.  For more details check them out online here!
