Women of Note…31 Women of Color who made their Mark!

phyllis wheatlyeRhode Island is a state that is deeply rooted in its history.  The Rhode Island Black Heritage Society and The Rhode Island Historical Society have created an incredible month long online exhibit called 31 Women of Note.  Each day a new biography will be uploaded to the site which you can find here.

On Tuesday, March 17th at 5 pm you can attend the reception for the Women of Note exhibit.  The reception is free and open to the public.  It will be held at the John Brown House in Providence.  The exhibit itself will feature 31 women of color and provide biographical information that highlights the marks these fearless women left .  These women lived all over our little state and made lasting impressions. These women were activists, authors, teachers, artists, musicians, students and more.  You can read these impressive biographies right on-line.  It is important to note these women as they have had an integral part in shaping the way we live today and should serve as an inspiration to us all.  This is a month-long exhibit and is worth checking up on daily!  Each day a new woman, each day a part of history will be uploaded.

The Rhode Island Black Heritage Society’s Mission:

“The Rhode Island Black Heritage Society was constituted for the purposes of procuring, collecting, and preserving books, pestrypamphlets, letters, manuscripts, prints, photographs, paintings, and historical materials relating to the history of African Americans in Rhode Island.  It also encourages and promotes the study of African-American history through lectures and making information available to the general public.”
