Feel that chill in the air this morning? It’s October, and along with all things pumpkin, harvest, and foliage, Halloween is set to become a big part of our lives once again. The favorite holiday of the year for those of us who love to dress up, get scared, and consume mountains of bite size candies, it is also the time of the year when Rhode Island’s fantastically gory and entertaining haunted attractions open, ready to terrify everyone brave enough to enter their gates. This guide to RI’s haunted attractions will give you many options for a night of fright and appreciation for the incredible costume designs, set building, and horror acting of those who make these attractions so fun and spine tingling.

 

• Fortress of Nightmares, Fort Adams, Newport. October 16-18, 23-26. Tickets $15. • Highland Farms’ Trails to Terror, 4235 Tower Hill Road, Wakefield. October 2, 3, 9-11, 16-18, 23-25, 29, 30, 7-10 pm. Tickets for the Forest of Fear and Delamorte’s Haunted Hayride, $13 each, or $20 for both. This year’s event features a Lovecraftian theme, Fright at Midnight. Fifteen acres of scream inducing fun. • Haunted Labyrinth, 804 Dyer Avenue, Cranston. October 2, 3, 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, 24, 30, 31. 7pm, Tickets $13 cash, $14 credit. All proceeds to charity. With designers working imaginatively from February to July, and builders hammering from July to October, the Labyrinth has been scaring people for charity for 30 years. Featuring Dracula’s Hideaway, the Asylum of Screaming Souls, and Psycho Alley, the Factory of Terror is a very intense attraction, indeed, and is not recommended for those who are pregnant or have heart issues.
