Where to Fish in Rhode Island
Rhode Island is a small state with a lot of waterfront, be it lakes, rivers, bays, or the open ocean. If you’re looking to do some fishing in Rhode Island, you’re spoiled for choice.
For the experienced angler and the novice alike, you can’t go wrong with one of Rhode Island’s many freshwater fishing spots. For a start, check out Worden’s Pond in SouthCounty. At over a thousand acres, Worden’s pond is a great fishing spot, and, if you’re tired of catching trout, you’ll really like Worden’s. The pond is full of Largemouth Bass, Black Crappie, and Northern Pike, and has shallow waters perfect for fishing; the pond never gets deeper than seven feet. Stop by Worden’s Pond Road in Wakefield, and check out the lake for yourself.

Or, you could check out the Woonasquatucket Reservoir in HopeValley. This reservoir has bass and perch, carp and crappie. For more information about Woonasquatucket Reservoir, visit http://www.exploreri.org/siteReport.php?siteID=4&src=criteria, or stop by the reservoir on Farnum Pike in Smithfield.
Of course, if you’re interested in saltwater fishing, you need only look to the ocean. Stop by the FortAdamsState Park in Newport. FortAdams is an 18th century military fortification right near Brenton Point and Brenton Cove. Not only is it a beautiful and historic spot, with a great view of the bridge, but is also a great spot for those looking to land some bluefish or striped bass. Find out more about Fort Adams State Park at www.fortadams.org.
Or, check out Bluff Hill Cove in Narragansett. You can get access to Bluff Hill Cove on Knowles Way in Narragansett, right off of Route 108. This is an inland, saltwater fishing spot, meaning that you won’t have to deal with so much turbulence on the water. In addition to fishing, this is a great spot for clam-digging.

For the best fishing in Rhode Island, a charter sportfishing trip is the way to go. There are lots of boats our there, but we love C-Devil II out of Galilee/Pt. Judith. Captain Kelly and crew are the best in the business. Everyone catches fish on C-Devil. We come back every year.
