The Admiral Dewey Inn in Matunuck, RI was once fondly referred to as “The Dewey Cottage”. Built in 1898 as a family style 15 bedroom boarding house that offered the traveler room, board and access to seaside enjoyment. The cottage then changed hands in 1930, and became vacant by 1970. Joan LeBel rescued the Inn in 1986 and renamed it the Admiral Dewey Inn. LeBel embarked upon the daunting task of full restoration of the Inn including first time installation of plumbing, heating, adherence to fire codes and temporary movement so a new foundation could be built. In doing so she brought back the true spirit of the cottage and returned its capacity to be a seaside resort locals and tourists. The Inn changed hands once again in 2012, proud owner Lev Kasparian reports, “Purchasing the inn fulfilled a lifelong dream that came sooner than expected. My goal has always been to eventually operate a seaside bed and breakfast. Well, it came true! I have completed little touches here and there to reinvigorate the coziness of the inn.” The Inn is furnished with Victorian period antiques and provides a feeling of traveling back in time when you walk through the doors. The glorious wrap around porch provides vacationers with a rocking chair and a view of the local area. Just a 5 minute walk away are two of RI’s favorite and oldest beach bars; The Ocean Mist and Tara’s Irish Pub. On those hot summer afternoons your a stones throw away from the Vanilla Bean ice cream shop. If live music and shows are what you are after, the aforementioned local bars can serve you or just a ten minute walk brings you to The Theatre By The Sea, where you can enjoy local theatrics all summer long!
