Newport and Bristol counties are full of old mansions and estates, and the Breakers is only the start of it. The Blithewold Blithewold Mansion in NewportMansion in Bristol offers more than just tours, however. With a massive garden and arboretum, the Blithewold Mansion is a great place to learn more about flora. Here are just a few of the events being held at the Blithewold mansion, arboretum, and gardens over the next few weeks.

On October 25th, there will be a digital photography workshop. With its idyllic surroundings, the Blithewold Mansion is a perfect venue for this, and will focus on nature and landscape photography.

On October 26th, they will be hosting a Children’s pumpkin carving and flower arranging workshop. This workshop takes place right before the Bristol Halloween Walkabout, so feel free to show up in costume!

On October the 30th, there will be a workshop on floral design, focusing on woody plants and shrubs, from blueberry branches to Japanese maple. Remember to bring a vase with you.

On Sunday, November 2nd, there will be both a guide to pruning, as well as a guided walk through the Blithewold’s thirty three acres of lawns and gardens.

On November 2nd, there will be an eco-friendly floral arrangement workshop, focusing on natural and recyclable materials.

On November 6th, you can attend the Garden Design Luncheon, which will focus on the “Slow Flowers” method of garden design.

Finally, on November 14th, there will be a class on proper dahlia growing and care, held by Rick Peckham of Peckham’s Greenhouse in Little Compton.
