Rhode Island Brews… 

The micro-brewery movement has grown in strength over the past few decades, and Rhode Island has not missed it. While there a lot of local breweries in Rhode Island that have started in the past few years, there are also many that have been here for quite some time. Here are just a few of the great local beers you can find in Rhode Island.

One of the most well-known spots to get a locally-made beer is the Trinity Brewhouse in Providence, right on Fountain Street downtown. Their company, Trinity Beerworks, is the largest brewery in the state. The Brewhouse always has great beers on tap; their Irish Stout can’t be missed. The Coddington Brewing Company also produces some great beers. Like most micro-breweries, Coddington Brewing Company does not always brew the same thing; flexibility is one of the strengths of a local brewery. So while you may not always find the same beers, you’re guaranteed to find something good. Try their pale, hoppy Dopplebock, or a crisp Irish Red Ale. Or, if you’re not sure, order a sampler tray. There are some great beers coming out of Greysail Brewing of Rhode Island in Westerly. Founded in 2010 in one of the old Westerly factory buildings, Greysail Brewing has a number of great beers. You can’t go wrong with a tall glass of their Flagship Cream Ale. Or, if you’re in the mood for something seasonal, try out their Hazy Day Belgian wheat beer this Summer. Finally, check out the offerings of the Whaler’s Brewing Company in Wakefield. Try their Hazelnut Cream Stout, which combines the tastes of oat, chocolate malt and roasted barley into a strong, distinct flavor.
