Earth Day in Rhode Island

Earth Day, which is being held this year on Tuesday, April 22nd, offers Rhode Island natives and tourists alike plenty of opportunities to learn, celebrate, and help out.

If you’re looking for a family friendly event, stop by the Providence Children’s Museum at 100 South Street. At 10:30, 11:30, 12:30 and 1:30, there will be an interactive, educational comedy for children and families called No Time to Waste, which focuses on recycling and environmental protection. This is designed for children ages five and up, and will feature arts and crafts. To learn more about the Children’s Museum’s Earth Day festivities, visit their website at  www.childrenmuseum.org.

On the Saturday after Earth Day, the 26th, there will be a Waterfire Earth Day cleanup event at WaterplacePark at One Moshassuck Court in Providence. The cleanup starts at 8:00 AM sharp. For more information, visit www.waterfire.org.

For a real educational experience, head down to Narragansett on Saturday the 26th. The EPA’s Atlantic Ecology Division will be hosting an Earth Day festival at 27 Tarzwell Drive from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. This festival will feature lectures and interactive exhibits by EPA scientists. There will also be an electronic recycling firm on site to take your old televisions, computers, and other pieces of electronics that you’re looking to get rid of.

If you’re looking for something for a more mature audience, why not stop by B. Pinelli’s in East Providence? At 5:30  on Tuesday the 22nd, B. Pinelli’s will be hosting a tasting featuring six expertly-selected wine samples. The wine tasting costs $15 per person, and comes with a complimentary edible table.
