The Gal Pals and I got a much-needed girls’ night out over the weekend. We are all “in the business” and love trying out new restaurants. So this week, we headed to The Flatts: South County’s Smokehouse, for some much needed barbeque and margaritas. One might think that margaritas are not the drink of choice when enjoying barbeque, but that was not the case. The margaritas at the Flatts were delicious, very light and refreshing and not too heavy on the sour mix (a major margarita no-no). Besides, we can’t help that our cravings don’t always coincide. We want what we want and we loved what we got!
The Flatts is located at 501 High Street in Peace Dale (that’s the old Giros in “Rhode Island directions” for all you locals). There is parking behind the building and the entrance is in the back. The décor is cozy, with booths, high-top tables, and a beautiful bar that encases local images and paraphernalia from the past. As my girls and I settled back and caught each other up on our lives, I took it all in. The Olympics were on the televisions, groups of families and friends laughed and chatted, and we unwrapped our silverware and placed the fun cloth napkins in our laps. The atmosphere was vibrant, but very comfortable at the same time.
We ordered family style, wanting to try a little bit of everything. We dined on an eclectic mix of yummy delights, including:
- Buffalo Cauliflower
- Salt & Vinegar Wings
- Flatts Campfire Hummus
- Devils on Horseback (bacon wrapped dates)
- Loaded Tots
- Brisket Plate with lots of cornbread
- Prime Rib Breuben Sandwich
The food took no time at all to come out of the kitchen and it was out-of-this-world delicious! My personal favorites were the Devils on Horseback, which were bacon wrapped dates with an amazing apricot dipping sauce, and the Prime Rib Breuben Sandwich, which was on special. We loved, loved, loved the Flatts and cannot wait to go back!
