While it may be a bit windy, winter in Newport is truly beautiful. Starting on December 1st and running through the end of the year, Christmas in Newport is a month-long celebration of Christmas and of Newport. Here’s a quick look at some of the Christmas in Newportevents being held.

On December the 1st, there will be a tree lighting in Washington Square at 6:00 PM. There will also be a liver artillery salute and live music.

If you’re looking for a traditional Christmas performance, check out the Newport Nutcracker at Rosecliff Mansion. They will be performing once a day from December 2 through December 5.

On Thursday, December 4th through Saturday, December 6th, there will be a lantern-lit holiday historical walking tour. Starting at 4:30 PM, this tour will take you through a history of colonial Newport citizens celebrated the holidays.

On Saturday, December 6th, there will be a holiday orchestra concert at the Casino Theater on Freebody Street. It will feature music, dance, and theater performances by the students of Salve Regina.

On Sunday the 7th, there will be a fireside storytelling session at the Hyatt Regency in Newport. Admission is free, and there will be free milk and cookies.

On Saturday the 20th, there will be a handmade holiday craft party at the Newport Public Library. This event is for children 6-12, and runs from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM.

On the day after Christmas, there will be a historical holiday train ride. Take a ride along Narragansett Bay, with historically-minded narration for the duration of the 70 minute trip.

On Sunday the 14th, the Saint Petersburg Men’s Ensemble will be performing traditional Russian music at Emmanuel Church on Dearborn Street. Entrance is free, although there is a $20 suggested donation at the door.
