Critically acclaimed all-female rock band Lez Zeppelin made a rare Rhode Island appearance at the Greenwich Odeum in East Greenwich on Saturday, January 27th. The sold-out performance did not disappoint!
Not to be confused with a typical tribute act, Lez Zeppelin takes the stage with a style, energy and attitude truly all their own, while performing the music of Led Zeppelin with authenticity, passion and precision.
The NYC based foursome opened their Greenwich Odeum debut with an explosive version of “Communication Breakdown” followed by “The Ocean” and “Custard Pie”. The nonstop, nearly two-hour rock show covered over a dozen Led Zeppelin fan favorites.
The superb musicianship of Lez Zeppelin coupled with an intense on-stage chemistry makes for an exceptional live show experience. Marlain Angelides with amazing lead vocals and Steph Paynes on lead guitar playing with Jimmy Page like expertise make for a dynamic duo. The on-stage nonverbal interaction between the two (Angelides & Paynes) is a show within a show.
The ultra tight rocking rhythm section consisting of Hillary Blaze laying down the heavy steady Bonzo beat along with Joan Chew on exceptional bass, keyboards and backing vocals were spot on.
The band closed out the regular set with the hard driving “Rock and Roll” and returned to the stage for an encore with an amazing rendition of “Whole Lotta Love”, complete with a Theremin solo by guitarist Steph Paynes.
The sold-out audience were captivated with the amazing show while singing in their seats, dancing in the isles and showing their approval with enthusiastic applause after every number. No doubt the debut of Lez Zeppelin to the Greenwich Odeum will not be their last visit to the venue.
