Movies on The Block in Providence
Seeing a movie out in the night air is a magical experience. It’s the kind of thing that reminds you why you started liking movies in the first place. While there’s only one drive-in left in Rhode Island, the Movies on The Block event will be held every week until the end of September.
The Movies on the Block event is held every Thursday, starting at dusk, on the corner of Westminster Street and Union Street. It’s totally free, and will feature a new movie every week. If you want to get your choice of seats, be sure to come early. And seating is what you bring or can find, so think about investing in a lawn chair. They are in their 7th season, so the word has spread…be sure to claim your spot!
- On August the 28th, the Wizard of Oz will be playing. This movie in particular really deserves the big screen.
- On September 4th, they’ll be playing the popular coming-of-age comedy Dazed and Confused.
- On September 18th, O Brother, Where Art Thou? starring George Clooney will be showing.
- And, on September the 25th, for their final showing of this year, Movies on The Block will be showing the 80s classic The NeverEnding Story.
There will be several food and drink vendors there, including the Like No Udder vegan ice cream truck, Ellie’s Bakery and the Trinity Brewhouse with drinks and all the treats you need! This has already become a Rhode Island tradition…come on down and see what it is all about!
