Outdoor Farmers markets
As we bid goodbye to the cold weather, we can look forward to visiting one of the outdoor farmer’s markets opening this spring and summer in Rhode Island. While many of these are open year-round, there’s nothing like an open-air farmer’s market.
The Hope Street Farmer’s Market is located at LippitPark right near the Pawtucket city line. The market opens for the season on May 17th, and runs through October 25th, the Hope Street Farmer’s Market. It is open Wednesdays from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, and Saturday from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. This farmer’s market is a great place to peruse a great selection of organic foods. There is also a great selection of food trucks parked along the road, and the park itself is well-suited to family outings.
The Slater Park Farmer’s Market in Pawtucket is held on Sundays from noon to 3:00 PM. This farmer’s market is on the smaller side, but offers a good selection of locally-grown food, including produce from Hill Orchards in Johnston and cheese from Narragansett Creamery.
If you’re in Kent County and don’t feel like driving into the city, stop by the West Warwick Farmer’s Market, located at the Thundermist Dental building at 186 Providence Street. Pick up some fresh veggies from the Blue Skys Farm stand, or get some fresh, locally-sourced meat from Exeter’s Wild Harmony Farm.
If you’re north of Providence, check out the Woonsocket Farmer’s Market, held from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Tuesdays starting July 1st. Located at the Thundermist Health Center on Clinton Street, the Woonsocket Farmer’s Market has fresh cheese and milk from Wright’s Dairy Farm of North Smithfield, or fresh fruit and veggies from Cooks Family Farm.
Whether you’re looking to buy your groceries for the upcoming week or you just want to browse, stop by one of Rhode Island’s many farmer’s markets this summer.
